Alec Murphy

Geographer Alexander (Alec) Murphy is the author of more than 100 articles and several books on political, cultural and environmental topics. A member of the geography faculty at the University of Oregon and champion of geographic education, he has won the university’s highest teaching awards.

Alec is a Past President of the Association of American Geographers and current Senior Vice-President of the American Geographical Society. Research, lecturing and travel have taken him to more than 100 countries on six continents. He is passionate about sharing insights and ideas with fellow travelers while exploring planet Earth’s diverse mix of places, cultures and natural landscapes.
