December and January are an excellent time for the destinations on this trip. It falls during one of the short dry seasons in Rwanda, although the gorilla trekking takes place in a rain forest, so rain is always a possibility. December is the beginning of the Green Season in Botswana. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible, but this is also when landscapes become lush, migratory birds arrive and many animals give birth, creating excellent predator viewing opportunities.
